High Adriana (Bonus: Karolina)

VS Sunday Update:
From Page Six:
Victoria’s Secret stunners Gisele, Heidi Klum, Naomi Campbell, Karolina Kurkova, Lenny Kravitz’s girlfriend Adriana Lima and Maverick Records pooh-bah Guy Oseary’s girlfriend Michelle Alves mingled with Woody Harrelson, Joaquin Phoenix, Gina Gershon, Mark McGrath, David Blaine, his latest model squeeze Manon von Gerkin and Blaine’s still-friendly ex, model Josie Maran.

Gisele, who dined with Campbell, Beyoncé Knowles and Destiny’s Child at Canteen before the party while the rest of the celebs noshed at Nobu, seemed unfazed about the biggest scandal of the night - when four PETA protesters confronted her on the catwalk of the Lexington Avenue Armory holding signs reading "Gisele: Fur Scum," a reference to Gisele’s job modeling Blackglama mink coats. "She danced all night and had a good time," said a spy.

Possibly with more on her mind was Adriana Lima, who’s sporting a diamond ring and telling pals she’s engaged to Kravitz. But the randy rocker has flatly told at least one friend of ours, "We’re not engaged." The mystery deepens.

Meanwhile, Victoria’s Secret must be red-faced after PETA managed to interrupt its show despite security measures more appropriate for an airport than a lingerie fashion show. One of the four women got a job as a catering assistant, which allowed her to roam freely in the armory.

Don’t count on seeing the animal-rights activists on the Victoria’s Secret special on CBS at 9 p.m. Wednesday. The segment was refilmed after the anti-fur four were dragged outside by security and thrown in a police van. They were given disorderly conduct summonses and released.

Earlier post:Well, it took me a few hours, but I've got the very first hi-res pic from the VS show yesterday (see below for details and thumbs). Adriana Lima, one of the night's big winners, is here (heavy file)

And just to make sure you'll have a wonderful week-end, our dear anonymous friend from yesterday has managed to get a hi-res scan of the one and only Karolina Kurkova from the Pirelli calendar. See you on Monday!

Juegen Teller - photographer of the year?

Photographers vie for £20,000 prize

A woman who befriends strangers in the street, a fashionisto, and a man obsessed by the war-emptied landscapes of Afghanistan have been shortlisted for the £20,000 Citibank Award, Britain's most prestigious photography prize.

Jürgen Teller is the best known of the four nominees, having photographed the fashion world from model Kristen McMenamy to Sir Elton John. The 39-year-old German mixes typically glossy shoots with grittier, more truthful portraits - a tired Kate Moss with badly dyed hair - as well as surreal photographs of Baltic and central European beauty queens.

By contrast the subjects of the early favourite, Jitka Hanzlova, could not be more ordinary. Czech-born Hanzlova, 44, the only photographer to be nominated twice for the prize, bumps into her subjects in the streets and often gets to know them well before she starts to photograph them.

The resulting large-scale pictures often have great empathy and sensitivity. She was nominated for her shots of young south Londoners for the Brixton Studio exhibition at the Photographers' Gallery in London this year.

Amsterdam-based Bertien van Manen's pictures of a seldom-seen side of Chinese life have a similar documentary feel: girls sleeping in minibuses, taking showers or going to discos in Shanghai. All attempt to catch a country at a moment of great change, according to the judges.

In contrast, Londoner Simon Norfolk's pictures of Afghanistan are mostly without people. After a career spent covering poll tax riots, Northern Ireland and the Gulf war for Living Marxism magazine, these images are about the aftermath of conflict, the wrecked villages, monuments and military equipment littering the landscape.

An exhibition of all the work shortlisted for the prize opens at the Photographers' Gallery in London on January 31, before touring to Madrid and Düsseldorf. The winner will be announced on February 27.
