Former model aims to oust Livingstone
By Toby Helm The Daily Telegraph

A former model yesterday launched a glitzy campaign to become Conservative candidate for Mayor of London.

Nikki Page, 51, who was a star of the catwalk in her late teens, said she would be a "breath of fresh air" for the capital.

Launching her bid to replace Ken Livingstone as Mayor, Mrs Page promised to abolish congestion charges, fight pollution and try to make London's streets safer. She would also "review" the system under which London taxi drivers charge "sky-high" fares at night.

Mrs Page is a former chairman of housing on Westminster council and is currently a political researcher and assistant to John Redwood, the Tory MP and former Cabinet minister. She ran a marketing company for five years.

She is likely to be the only woman to run for Tory candidate. Nominations close on Friday.
