Playboy boss cuts out the fat

From the NY Post

New Playboy editor James Kaminsky has booted corpulent cutie Carnie Wilson from the magazine because she's too tubby. Insiders say Wilson had been slated for a spread in Playboy's April issue.

After undergoing laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery in 1999, the former Wilson Phillips singer, daughter of Beach Boys legend Brian Wilson, dropped 150 pounds. But Kaminsky - brought in by Hugh Hefner from Maxim to revamp the fading men's mag - decided she didn't cut it.

"He said she was just too fat," our source laughs.

But a Playboy rep insists Wilson is still in the running. "She was shot for the magazine, and the pictures are very flattering," the rep says. "She has not been dumped, they just haven't been scheduled yet."

The April issue will feature a sizzling spread on Carmen Electra. Wilson's rep did not return calls.

As he did at Maxim, Kaminsky - who will soon replace Arthur Kretchmer as editorial director - will seek more celebrity skin, even if he has to let the big-name pin-ups keep some of their clothes on.

"He really wants Christina Aguilera," says the source. "She's like his holy grail. He's also very interested in Britney Spears, anything to get that MTV market."

Kaminsky also angered some by moving Playboy's editorial headquarters from Chicago to New York. "Hef is upset about a lot of this, but he did bring the guy in to change things, so what's he going to do?"

As we reported in November, Kaminsky has gone to war with Hef several times as they struggle to save the faltering Playboy empire. Seeking to steer the monthly away from its stolid predictability, Kaminsky promptly banned Hef's blonde bimbo bedmates. "No more girlfriends of Hef's in the magazine," Kaminsky proclaimed.

"He hates the bleach-blonde, fake breasts look," says a spy.

But a Playboy spokeswoman indicated that Kaminsky had backed off the ban on Hefner's cookie-cutter cuties. "There is absolutely no truth to the rumor that Mr. Hefner's girlfriends will not be considered for the pages of Playboy," said a spokeswoman.

"Mr. Hefner and Playboy have always been the leaders in defining, interpreting and celebrating the beauty of women, and will continue to do so."
