Ooops! Got a nice letter from the folks at Lucire, the fashion webzine. You may remember I expressed my disappointment with the headline chosen in Lucire for a fashion feature with Sophie Monk, "Sophie's Choice". I thought the cruel choice imposed by the Nazis upon Sophie in the book (and film) was a poor reference for a sexy sequence of pics about swimsuits.
But Jack Yan informs me that "in New Zealand, there is a slang word 'choice' which means 'fabulous', as an adjective. Therefore, the headline would have the additional meaning 'Sophie is fabulous' to a New Zealander (or more precisely, 'Sophie's a bit of alright' if one were to use an English expression); of course, there is the literal meaning as well".
Lucire's slogan is "The Global Fashion Magazine", but they are certainly entitled to stay local when language is concerned! So I owe Lucire an apology! You can check out their new feature about Malgosia Bela H&M campaign here)
