Following my earlier post about Kate Moss giving birth, some have asked why is the newborn called Lola. Several possible answers came to mind:
1. Kate and Jefferson liked the German cult film Run Lola Run!.
2. There are no known models called Lola.
3. A clear message to Fleet Street, the name is the acronym of Leave Our Love Alone .
4. It is an homage from Jefferson to Lola Corwin, the better half of the Playboy twins Lola and Morena Cornwin.
5. It is an homage from Kate to The Sopranos' actor Lola Glaudini.
6. Lola is the name of model Lou Doillon's sister. Doillon's half-sister, French actress Charlotte Gainsbourg, starred in the French cult movie Felix et Lola. Charlotte's father, Serge, had a song hit called Pauvre Lola.
7. It's a deformation of the name Leulla Bartley, Kate's favorite label.
8. In her first ed for Dazed and Confused, where she has first met Jefferson, Kate has been sprayed with paint motifs vaguely forming the word "lola".
9. Lo-la means in Hebrew "not her style".
10. YOU'RE NOT GOING TO BELIEVE THIS: Lola is the name of a portuguese saint, protector of Rio Pomba, that was paralyzed since age 23 due to a rare disease provoked by Anorexia Nervosa in his youth. Following his death, the saint is now the emblem of groups militating against the current fashion standards of the ideal body.

Liz Claiborne Buys Ellen Tracy In $180M Deal

NEW YORK -- Liz Claiborne Inc. (LIZ) confirmed its purchase of privately held women's sportswear designer Ellen Tracy Inc. for about $180 million, including the assumption of debt.
Women's Wear Daily reported July 30 that negotiations were taking place for Liz Claiborne to buy the bridge sportswear firm. A Liz Claiborne spokeswoman said at the time that the company doesn't comment on rumors.
In a press release Monday, fashion apparel maker Liz Claiborne said it expects the transaction to be neutral to earnings in the fourth quarter but to provide "meaningful accretion" to earnings in 2003.
Herb Gallen, who founded Ellen Tracy in 1949, will act as chairman of the Ellen Tracy enterprise within Liz Claiborne, while Linda Allard continues as Ellen Tracy's design director. Glenn McMahon, formerly president of Kenneth Cole women's sportswear at Liz Claiborne, will become president of Ellen Tracy.
Ellen Tracy had 2001 sales of $171 million. Liz Claiborne had 2001 sales of $3.45 billion.
