'Girls Gone Wild' Producers Win Lawsuit

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - A federal judge ruled that the makers of a sexually explicit video series did not violate the privacy rights of a 17-year-old girl who flashed her breasts to a cameraman.

U.S. District Judge Anne Conway ruled Tuesday against the plaintiff, saying Veronica Lane consented to the filming and distribution of her image and likeness even though she was just 17 years old.

Lane was seeking unspecified damages, arguing the film, its creators, producers and distributors had violated her right to privacy and had cast her in a false light by including her in the "Sexy Sorority Sisters" video.

Conway ruled that the defendant, Mantra Films, which produces the "Girls Gone Wild" videos, did not have to compensate Lane for using her likeness in the videos.

In September 1999, Lane and a friend flashed their breasts to a cameraman. Lane later contended that she did not know that her image would be used in a commercial video.

Big changes are afoot at Playboy now that it's revamping and moving its editorial headquarters to New York. According to a source close to the magazine, incoming editorial director James Kaminsky doesn't want to see Hugh Hefner's seemingly endless string of blonde bimbo bedmates showing up in the pages month after month. "He's ordered everyone, 'No more girlfriends of Hef's in the magazine!' " says the tipster. Instead, Kaminsky - who will replace longtime editorial director Arthur Kretchmer when Kretchmer steps down after Playboy's 50th anniversary next year - wants to skew toward Maxim's younger audience with "tall models and celebrities. He hates the bleached-blonde, fake boobs look." Kaminsky is even willing to forgo nudity in order to get mainstream starlets to pose, says the source. A spokeswoman for the mag says: "There is absolutely no truth to the rumor that Mr. Hefner's girlfriends will not be considered for the pages of Playboy. Mr. Hefner and Playboy have always been the leaders in defining, interpreting and celebrating the beauty of women and will continue to do so."
