PETA (People for Ethical Treatment for Animals) announced yesterday the official start of the animal rights group's focus on France. Stella McCartney was one of the rare fashion players present at the press conference. The first VIP supporters of the French branch are actresses Fiona Gélin and Laëtiatia Scherrer, with part-time singer Dani. Fashion designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac agreed to stop using fur, according to the speakers.

Although it tried very hard to lobby the top French models - Laetitia, Audrey, Estelle, Carla, Loan and more - the organisation couldn't convince any player in the modelling industry to join the campaign. Their spokesman announced a new press conference for February 2003.

French is a new fashion quaterly that is, well, French. The creative director is photographer Thierry Le Goues, the editor is Alain Wais (ex Glamour France) and the gimmick is there are 22 (!) different covers, each cover with a different model. Two of them are nude, and as you might have guessed, those are sold out already.
