ELLE has a new tempting proposition for underage, naive, beautiful American girls - give us 35 bucks.
To be more precise, ELLE US has a new contest, entitled So you want to be a model?, aimed at 13-19 years old readers of ELLE Girl. This is the official motto of the contest: "The So You Want To Be A Model Contest was created to provide aspiring talent with an educational opportunity to learn about the modeling industry, while also offering the possibility to be discovered by the world's leading model and talent agencies."
But the real motto is - let's try to trick young girls to subscribe to our magazine for the double of its price.
Every girl entering the contest has to provide a picture, an essay, an ID proof - oh, and 35$.
That's a lot of money for receiving "an opportunity to be discovered" (after all, aspiring models can get the same opportunity for free at any agency), so ELLE gives them something more - a one-year subscription to ELLE Girl. Take that, Vogue Teen!
By the way, the same subscription costs only 8$ online, so one can suspect a clever scheme here. These kind of practices is illegal in the European Union for minors, but then, there are enough teenagers in the US to make a nice buck.

While the "serious" fashionatas are flocking from London to NYC today, Madrid is desperatly trying to get some attention. But is this the right way? Newcomer David Delfin closed the Madrid Fashion Week yesterday with a "Taliban" collection, aimed to protest against treatment of women in Afghanistan. Some models were hurt when protesters invaded the runway; others fall because they couldn't see thru the strange outfits on their heads. The organisers announced Delfin will not be invited next year.
