Dad-in-law slams Jude Film hunk Jude Law was blasted by his father-in-law last night after claims that he has formed a close friendship with Nicole Kidman. Jude, 30, was branded “self-centred” by Sadie Frost’s dad David Vaughan. David, 58, said he would not be surprised if the handsome actor was unfaithful — and warned that troubled Sadie would be shattered if her husband had an affair. He added: “Jude just thinks of himself. He is that kind of personality who is self-centred. “Sadie needed encouragement when she was acting and I didn’t see Jude capable of giving encouragement. “He never supported Sadie and told her how well she was doing as far as acting was concerned. “He wanted somebody to look after the house and the children, while I wanted her to appear in something meaningful like Schindler’s List.” David said he would not be surprised if Jude was unfaithful to Sadie because “every woman and her auntie” is attracted to him. He added: “It is not right for me to judge him. But it is up to me to protect my daughter. “I know she would be shattered if he was having an affair. She would not be capable of understanding such infidelity.” David, from Manchester, hit out after claims that Jude had been out on dates with Hollywood beauty Nicole, ex-wife of Tom Cruise. But Sadie last night said reports of an affair were “complete rubbish” — and Road To Perdition star Jude threatened to sue. He allegedly formed a close friendship with Nicole while working with her on a new film called Cold Mountain. And that was said to be the real reason why mum-of-four Sadie was admitted to a London clinic suffering post-natal depression. Nicole, 35 — who starred with her ex-hubby in Eyes Wide Shut — is said to have told friends she has fallen hopelessly in love with an English actor. One pal is reported as saying: “She is seriously keen on Jude Law and the two have been on a number of dates, including a trip to Palm Springs. “Jude has been introduced to Nicole’s two adopted children.” Sadie, 37, left the Cromwell Hospital in West London on Friday (pic, above). The Sun told exclusively how she had been admitted to the exclusive hospital days after marking her arms in a “cry for help” in Los Angeles. Last night a friend said: “Sadie is sounding more positive. She and Jude are determined to save the marriage. She sounds just like the old Sadie.” The couple’s Los Angeles spokesman has also said they are determined to save their marriage for the sake of their children. And a spokeswoman for Sadie said reports of an affair between Jude and Nicole were “absolute rubbish”. Jude hid behind dark glasses and declined to talk about his marriage or Sadie’s health as he hurried through Heathrow with a minder. When asked later about reports of an affair, he said: “My lawyers will see you in court.” ... Link

HELL NO, DON'T GO, SAYS GQ EDITOR Art Cooper, the GQ editor in chief just inducted into the Hall of Fame of the American Society of Magazine Editors, stirred controversy at the awards dinner with some stinging anti-war remarks directed at President Bush. At the dais during a black-tie dinner Wednesday night at the Waldorf Astoria, he chided the commander in chief for being "all too eager" to have a war with Iraq. "I am troubled by the prospect of launching a war against Iraq," said Cooper. "We have sent such intrepid war correspondents as Michael Kelly, Bob Drury, Guy Lawson and Chris Whitcomb into hot zones, and I do not wish to send them back," said Cooper. "If there is to be a war - and I am deathly afraid our president is all too eager to have one - I surely hope this most secretive of administrations does not try to restrain the media from covering every aspect of it. "We must not be docile in our demands that daily press briefings at the Al Rashid Hotel are not enough. It is our responsibility to report this adventurism fully and frankly to the American people." The remarks stirred controversy and debate in what was otherwise seen as a jovial night out for the industry. "We could have done without those remarks on the war," said one top editor as he waited on a seemingly interminable coat line after the dinner. "I thought it was a little off the beam," said another. Applause was light while Cooper delivered his remarks on war - but it's open to debate whether the light applause was because members of the audience were listening in rapt attention - or deliberately turning down the volume because they disapproved of the rebuke to the president. Afterward, Cooper partied in the same Waldorf Astoria presidential suite where Pope Paul VI once met President Johnson. Essence Chairman Edward Lewis was given the Henry Johnson Fisher Award, named for a long-ago chief of Popular Science. It is bestowed by the Magazine Publishers of America and is considered the highest honor given to an industry executive. While Cooper was in a spacious presidential suite, Lewis and his entourage partied in the Waldorf penthouse, were guests were admitted by special pass keys. Lewis stopped downstairs to mingle with Cooper and his guests for awhile. ... Link ... Next page
