Pfeiffer Questions Blondes in Film

The poster for the new film "White Oleander" shows half-face portraits of Michelle Pfeiffer, Robin Wright Penn, Renee Zellweger and Alison Lohman — all with hair in shades of blond.
During a news conference at the Toronto International Film Festival on Friday, Pfeiffer asked director Peter Kosminsky if the casting of four blondes was deliberate.
"Was that by design? Was it designed for all the women to be blond?" she asked the director, who was sitting with her on the panel answering questions from reporters.
Kosminsky replied that it was a coincidence, but Pfeiffer didn't seem convinced. Referring to the skills of hairstylists, she remarked: "You can get any hair color you want."
"White Oleander" is the story of a teenager (Lohman) who bounces among foster homes after her mother (Pfeiffer) is convicted of murder. The film opens in limited release in the United States on Oct. 11.
