Glamour announced three new hires this week. The executive editor of Worth magazine, Susan Goodall, jumps to executive managing editor at Glamour, where she will oversee the editorial schedule, fiscal planning and copy turnout. Suzanne Donaldson joins the mag as photo director after 13 years directing the Luhring Augustine Gallery and freelancing. Former Allure associate editor Laurel Naverson becomes senior beauty editor.
After a six-year stint, Peter Howarth is leaving Esquire to, what else, write a novel. The editor, who will leave in December, says he will also pursue a career in broadcasting. His marks the longest tenure of any so-called “laddie mag” editor in the U.K. , where he’ll be remembered for his decision to drop naked women from the Esquire cover.
Executive director, marketing services Priya Narang has been promoted to associate publisher, marketing at Vogue. Narang was the senior VP, media planning director at Dewitt Media prior to joining Vogue in 2000.
Those wacky folks at Maxim announced a “heaping helping of just desserts” for Steve Russell and Mike Hammer this week. In other words, the two are being promoted. Russell and Hammer become co-executive editors, while Laura Kelly Silverman joins the mag as managing editor. Russell began at Maxim as entertainment editor in 1998, most recently serving as senior and deputy editor. Hammer, who helped launch Maxim and Stuff, had been overseeing the company’s brand extensions. Silverman signs on from Vibe, where she was managing editor.
The Seventeen-YM wars continue as YM strikes a blow. Editor Christina Kelly has lured Seventeen deputy editor Tamara Glenny to YM as executive editor. Glenny also worked for In Style and Time Machine before joining Seventeen three years ago.
