NYC 'Sexcapade' Lasted 3 Hours
By Karen Freifeld NEWSDAY

Maybe they were also trying for the Guinness Book of World Records.

The couple arrested in August for allegedly having sex in St. Patrick's Cathedral for a raunchy radio show also did the deed at a half-dozen other public places that afternoon -- including the FAO Schwarz toy store and the sidewalk in front of the Carnegie Deli, said a source familiar with the case.

In court papers yesterday, prosecutors claimed Loretta Lynn Harper, 35, and Bryan Florence, 37, both of Virginia, engaged in sex acts "at several public Manhattan locations" for a total of three hours before ending up in the cathedral.

Although the papers do not list the locations, the source said the sites were a taxi, bank vestibule, a hotel, and the Cinderella section of a Disney store, in addition to FAO Schwarz and the Carnegie Deli.

Florence and Harper were arrested Aug. 15 on charges of public lewdness after allegedly having sex in the cathedral as part of the "Opie and Anthony" radio show, a stunt that offended Catholics and others and led to the discontinuation of the program.

Also charged in the stunt was comedian Paul Mercurio, 40, of Manhattan, an employee of WNEW/102.7 FM, who allegedly led the couple from location to location and provided a running commentary. Court papers say Mercurio possessed a list of sites that stated the point values for each (a church was worth 25 points, Rockefeller Center 30 points) and described the sex acts on the air.

The radio show was holding a contest whereby couples engaged in sex around Manhattan for the chance to win a trip to Boston, a tour of a brewing house and the chance to attend a party with Opie (Greg Hughes) and Anthony (Anthony Cumia).

Speaking by telephone later, Carnegie Deli owner Sandy Levine recalled his workers called him outside that August day and "the privates were to be seen." Levine said he didn't mind much, but he wasn't planning to name any sandwiches after the couple, either.

Employees at Disney stores said they knew nothing of the alleged incident, while a spokesman for FAO Schwarz didn't sound quite as accepting.

"We won't confirm or deny it," said the spokesman, Alan Marcus. "I have no comment."

This story isn't over. The amorous couple and their alleged moderator were in court again yesterday and due back Nov. 13.
