Ulrika's back

Even if you don't live in the UK, it is difficult to avoid news of the Ulrika-Eriksson affair. French radio programs talk about it at length this morning, and it is in all the papers here. Ulrika Jonsson is a swedish/english TV star that had last summer a brief but highly publicised relationship with Sven-Goran Eriksson, manager of the England football team (that's soccer for North-American visitors). The Daily Mail's £700,000 deal to serialise Ulrika Jonsson's sizzling biography has been tarnished by a classic "spoiler" operation in yesterday's Daily Mirror, that carried an interview with Ulrika's own mother. The Football Association is concerned the revelations in Jonsson's autobiography might embarrass Eriksson so much he will walk away from the England job. It was the Mirror that first uncovered details of the England manager's affair with the TV presenter, scooping the News of the World, which thought it had an exclusive with the story. In the mother's interview, there's not much about the Fergusson affair, but a lot of sad details about Ulrika's childhood. It is difficult to understand how her mother can go public about it, when all the blame should go to her. Abandoned by her mother, and emotionally scarred by her father's lifestyle, Ulrika was forced to grow up well before her time - leaving her with a searing insecurity that would affect all her adult relationships to come. Her mother explains how the little girl was forced to take second place to Bo Jonsson's partying and womanising, admits that she had to feed and look after herself, and reveals how Ulrika even had to play a part in keeping Bo's girlfriends apart. She also talks of the love Ulrika felt for her father, despite his flaws, and of how his death devastated her. "She was always a Daddy's girl. I don't think she will ever get over losing him." On one occasion, the Football Association unwittingly booked the pair into rooms at the same hotel following a Manchester United game, she said. The book also reveals that very much married Eriksson regularly visited her home in Cookham Dean, Berkshire, as he travelled to watch matches around the country. According to other news reports, Eriksson tried to convice Ulrika to have a 3-in-bed romp with him and her best friend Nancy (pics of the three women in Eriksson life appear today in The News of the World). And now, as if all this is not enough, The Sunday Mirror has a "World Exclusive" about a 21 year old girl, Nadia Abrahams, claiming an english football manager sexually attacked her in his car. But it's not the same one, you football ignorant! (I'm talking to myself). To quote the explanations of a dear reader of this humble weblog: Ulrika had an affair with Sven-Goran Eriksson, but the football manager accused of assault is Ferguson! They are definitely two very
