Heavily pregnant supermodel Claudia Schiffer is on crutches after an accident at the weekend left her with three broken bones in her foot.

The 31-year-old - due to give birth in January - was at a party in London on Sunday night when part of a fireplace fell off and crushed her toes.

Her worried husband, Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels producer Matthew Vaughn, rushed his wife to hospital where she was told she had broken three bones.

Doctors operated on the injury earlier this week and Claudia is now recovering at home.

However, her convalescence has become an agonising process as doctors have told her that because she's pregnant she can't take any painkillers.

A source tells us: "It's all very worrying as she's now seven months gone. She's obviously in a lot of pain.

"It's difficult enough trying to get around when you're expecting a baby anyway - but having to rely on crutches is making it virtually impossible.

"Claudia isn't the type to sit around at home doing nothing so she's started hobbling about already.

"She likes to keep herself busy but she knows she has to do what's best and make a full recovery so she's keeping movement to a minimum.

"Matthew has been fussing over her ever since it happened.

"He's naturally very concerned about his wife and hates seeing her in such discomfort.

"But the main thing is that they both make sure the rest of her pregnancy is completely trouble-free."

A spokesman for the couple released a statement yesterday that confirmed Claudia had been injured.
