Mysterious underwear causes stir at Stark County recorder's office

CANTON - There's a stripper loose in the Stark County recorder's office. But no one has seen the show, just the leftovers.

In the last several weeks, lacy women's underwear have been found in the otherwise pedestrian office.

``If it's a joke, I can take a joke,'' said Recorder Rick Campbell. ``But it has been escalating.''

Campbell reported the incidents to the Stark Sheriff's Department. One of the items, according to police reports, was a $35 black silk teddy that was found Oct. 30 between the public computer station and the window of the Central Plaza South office.

In addition, Campbell said underwear have been discovered in restrooms of the Stark County Office Building.

He claimed in the reports that people in the title examiner's office may have been playing jokes because of changes he was making in the office. Thursday, he said as far as he knows, no one from the inside is planting their skivvies in public view.

Campbell got the heebie-jeebies about touching the silky surprises. ``I used a stick to throw them away,'' he said.

As for the excitement they have caused, Campbell was tongue-in-cheek. ``It's the recorder's office,'' he said. ``What's wrong with people?''
