The result somewhat surprises me, since Russian models were #1 for most of the time. But it seems a lot of visitors were tired of the "pale, young and melancholic" look.

It is difficult to define the Israeli look, since it is various and heavily based on strong, mix-ethnic features. The first israeli supermodel was Michaela Bercu, who in 1988 had more international covers than any other models that year, Cindy and Claudia included. The best pictures of Michaela were taken by Pamela Hanson for Vogue Paris, but her most famous portrait is the cover of May 1988 Vogue US, by Arthur Elgort. Entitled "The cover that shocked the world", it has won numerous prizes and is featured in most fashion anthologies. The most successful israeli model was probably Nina Brosh, but Shiraz Tal, Sharon Genish, Kim Iglinsky, Maayan Keret, Amit Machtinger and many others were or still are successful as well.
