Short takes of the day

* Heidi Klum, supermodel deluxe, will be the first cover girl on Time magazine's new biannual venture Time Style & Design. The mag, half of which will be devoted to fashion and half to design, has a dazzling launch planned Monday at Gotham Hall. This coincides with New York's fashion week and directly benefits the Council of Fashion Designers of America. The party promises to be a glitzy glut of fashionistas, movie stars and uselessly beautiful types (Newsday)

* Country music superstar Keith Urban, who will be out of action for the immediate future due to throat problems, has apparently slipped to his homeland australia with his girlfriend, supermodel Nikki Taylor. "Urban has secured the guest support spot on a huge American tour by Kenny Chesney, and it is important that he is fully recovered to commence that in April," a spokeswoman said yesterday. His sold out co-headline tour of Canada with Carolyn Dawn Johnson this month has been cancelled. (Australia Interactive)

* British police released U.S. rock star Courtney Love without charge on Tuesday after she received a warning for swearing at a crew member on her flight from Los Angeles. Love, 38-year-old widow of rock band Nirvana's late singer Kurt Cobain, had been arrested at London's Heathrow Airport earlier following a disturbance on board her flight from Los Angeles. An airline spokesman said the lead singer of the band Hole had become disruptive and had verbally abused cabin crew during the flight, which had 200 passengers on board. No one was injured during the incident. "I cussed at a lady named Mary. She wasn't letting my friend into first class so I said 'Why are you being a bitch about it'," Love said.

* Supermodel Alek Wek is speaking out tonight about the suffering of her war-torn homeland. The African ingenue, who fled the Sudan for London when she was 14, is on the lineup for "Fight the Power: Stories of Resistance" at the Players Club on Gramercy Park South. Wek, named "Model of the Decade" by I.D. magazine, also sits on the advisory board for the U.S. Committee for Refugees, which raises awareness about malnutrition in Sudan. (NY Post)
