ULRIKA: MY DATE RAPE NIGHTMARE

Ulrika Jonsson tells tonight how she was the victim of a date-rape the year she joined TV-am.

And she reveals she felt like ending it all in the dark days after being dumped by the dad of her daughter Bo.
The rape happened in 1988 when Ulrika began working as a secretary on the morning show where she later made her name as a weather girl.

It was the result of a casual date with an acquaintance.

Ulrika says: "He came to pick me up to go to the cinema, I invited him in because I was getting ready. He became very affectionate and started kissing.

"I reciprocated and he forced himself upon me. It was very unexpected and it frightened me a lot. I was quite ill for a period after that." Her pain was so bad, Ulrika ended up in hospital for five days. She says the rape left her with psychological scars.

The Swede, who was 21 at the time, makes her revelation in Mentorn documentary Ulrika Jonsson: The Trouble With Men on Channel 4 at 9pm tonight. She refuses to name her attacker, but the show's makers stressed it was not a TV-am colleague.

And Ulrika did not report the rape because, she says, "it would be my word against his and I think I felt ashamed".

Speaking of when Bo's father Markus Kempen deserted her after the birth last year, Ulrika, 35, reveals: "I didn't want to live because I was so frightened.

"I felt responsible to Bo for the choice I had made in her father. I had made a s**t choice again. So stupid."

She says her relationship with Sven Goran Eriksson would have continued had it begun after the World Cup.

The scene was cut from the show, but Ulrika told how she walked away from the fling with her fellow Swede "because the pressure got too much".
