He was bursting with pride as supermodel Claudia Schiffer presented him with a son yesterday.

And film producer Matthew Vaughn revealed exactly what he wanted for their first child.

"I hope he'll have his mother's looks and his father's business acumen," he grinned.

Matthew, 31, said life couldn't get much better after the as yet unnamed tot - weighing 7lb - was born at the Portland Hospital in London.

In an exclusive interview he told 3am: "Claudia and I are over the moon. It may be a cliche but we're beyond thrilled. My life has been like a fairytale in the last couple of years and this is the icing on the cake, it really is."

He said German-born Claudia was looking "radiant, beautiful, amazing".

And the baby? - "He looks great...a fantastic little chap."

Speaking from the hospital's maternity room, he added: "There are no words. I've always listened to first time parents banging on about their new babies and thought they sounded like idiotic mono- syllabic morons.

"And now here I am sounding like an idiotic monosyllabic moron. It just renders you speechless.

"I haven't really spoken to anyone about it yet - you are one of the first after our families, obviously, and I am rather overwhelmed - as you can probably tell!"

Claudia, 31, was advised by her doctors to have a Caesarean after being involved in a bizarre accident in November.

She was left in agony - and on crutches - after a fireplace toppled on to her foot, breaking a toe.

Matthew explained: "It hasn't healed at all. So the doctors thought it would be too risky having a natural birth. It's been quite worrying actually." "

He said they hadn't chosen a name yet because they didn't know if it would be a boy or girl.

"We decided it would nicer if it was a surprise," he said.

Claudia knew she was pregnant when the couple wed in Suffolk last May.

But they kept the news secret from guests including Sting, Guy Ritchie, Trudie Styler and Vinnie Jones.

Claudia met Matthew at a dinner party in Los Angeles and they eventually started dating after she ditched her former boyfriend Tim Jefferies.

She is expected to remain in hospital for at least a couple of days, but was said last night to be resting comfortably.

Matthew added: "The staff have been fantastic and it really couldn't have gone any better.

"I intend to celebrate quite soon by getting very, very drunk on some very good wine. But that may have to wait a bit.""

Claudia revealed two years ago that she was desperate to start a family.

She said: "Someday I'll have children and make a home. I love children - but I'll have to wait a while.""

Asked if had spoken to his celebrity pals yet about their son, Matthew laughed and told 3am: "No, you are before Madonna if that makes you happy."

Well, I think we can kiss Meghan good bye (er, it's only an idiom). She isn't in the February Guess? ads, so I guess the little tummy from the December ads meant indeed that's she's pregnant. At 17!! Isn't it a huge waste of youth?
